Over $300k raised to date to benefit UW Student Football Managers!
Kevin "Otis" Green was 22 years old when he died in June of 2013 unexpectedly in an automobile accident. He had graduated from the University of Wisconsin Madison in May of 2013 and was about to begin a career for a major online retailer.
During his time in Madison, "Otis", as his family and friends affectionately knew him, had become a dedicated member of the UW Football family through his involvement as a student football manager for the Badgers. From practice at Camp Randall to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Otis exemplified the heart, determination and loyalty to be part of a winning team. Otis was also a 'modest leader' off the field who demonstrated his leadership abilities through his longtime employment as a Pier Manager at Gordy's Lakefront Marine in Fontana, Wisconsin.
Otis valued his personal relationships as much as his love for the game of football and his work. His family, friends and acquaintances were dear to Kevin and he touched each and every person in a unique and personal way - he was always the one to 'bring people together'.
Kevin's family, friends, teammates and colleagues wish to carry on his dedication to the UW Football program by honoring qualified UW-Madison Football Student Managers through an educational scholarship endowed by the Otis Green Foundation.
The Student Manager chosen as the annual recipient of the Otis Green Football Student Manager Award & "Kevin Daniel 'Otis' Green Scholarship" will exemplify Kevin's leadership, work ethic and dedication to academic achievement and loyalty to teammates, coaches, friends, and most importantly the UW-Madison Football Student Manager program.
"It has been a pleasure to be a part of this process, while it’s a hard thing to do, I believe it’s the absolute right and best thing to do for such a good man (OTIS). I will always remember his wonderful grin/smile. In the short time he was here, he sure made a good impression on everyone’s life that he touched...I can only hope that my kids have only a few of these characteristics, then I will feel like I did my job raising my sons and I would be a proud father." - Mark Peeler, UW-Madison Equipment Manager
"...If I had to describe Otis in one word, it would have to be 'admirable'. I aspire to be half as good a friend as him in my lifetime. I strive to mimic his work ethic in everything that I do (it's no easy task). Knowing Otis makes me want to be a better person, because I know what it looks like and I know it's possible. He was the greatest person I've ever known, and I will never forget him." - Talon Z., UW-Madison Student Football Manager
"...He was always keeping busy and putting in extra time to make sure his coach had everything he needed. I knew if I ever needed something done, I would go to Otis because he would do it if he could, or would find the right people that could do it ...Otis had much more to give to the world and every person that he came in contact with is better off for having met this amazing man. We all miss Otis every single day..." - Zachary D., UW-Madison Student Football Manager
"Kevin 'Otis' Green represented exactly what it means to be a well rounded person...He showed me just how far being kind and courteous in life can actually take you, so I will do my best to follow in his footsteps. I will never forget the time I knew Otis, he will live on in all of our hearts for as long as we live." - Charlie M., UW-Madison Student Football Manager
"Otis embodied all of the essential qualities in a great manager and an even greater human being. His unrelenting loyalty to his friends and his passion for his job were unmatched by anyone I have ever met. ...Otis was kind, gentle, and caring but his greatest attribute was the rare ability to make all those around you better. He made myself, and the others around him better in every aspect....The impact he made on me and the impact on the University of Wisconsin Football team is immeasurable. I am thankful each day for the opportunity to have known this remarkable young man, and I know he is watching over everyone of us reminding us to work hard, enjoy life, and love the people around us." - Joe S., UW-Madison Student Football Manager
"He had a standard that he held himself to that was contagious among the managers. He took pride in his work and loved everyday being out on the field as a manager. He loved the camaraderie and bond that we managers had, and he was a central part of that bond. I will always remember Otis as an outgoing, caring, and dependable friend." - Max V., UW-Madison Student Football Manager
"His passion and excitement simply to be at work was infectious. His mere presence in the work environment made every work day better. Outside of work, Otis was always one to spread joy and excitement throughout the group. He had a smile that could light up the room, especially when he was laughing and being funny. He is a once in a lifetime individual to have known." -Michael K., UW-Madison Student Football Manager
